What shoes should you buy when you are overweight?
Just because you are overweight does not mean you can wear anything you want. Most likely, you have a wider foot and bigger ankles. Shoes designed for people with smaller feet will not fit you properly.
We found that my feet got a hell of a lot of issues from poorly designed shoes. It was hard for me to find something that I was happy with and that didn’t bother my feet. Most shoes were too narrow and cut off my circulation.
You do not want to show up to the gym or run out to the neighborhood track with shoes that make you have a less than stellar workout. It is really important that you find a pair of running shoes that work for you.
It can be difficult finding shoes if your feet are bigger, but we have you covered. I have put together a list of the best running shoes for heavy runners in 2021.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What are the best shoes for heavy runners?
The best shoes for heavy running are the ones that fit well, are appropriate for the activity and correct your running style. No shoe makes up for shortcomings in your running posture, technique or form.
There's no such thing as "the best shoes" because everything from your size and weight to the surface you're running on makes a difference. For example, a runner who's 220 pounds and running on a smooth, even surface is not going to have the same shoe needs as a 125-pound person running on rugged, uneven terrain.
It's important to be comfortable and pain free when you run but often, heavy runners will need more than just their run of the mill running shoe to feel at their best. While some runners will immediately opt for a heavy-duty running shoe, others will need to opt for something more specific.
Are Hokas good for heavy runners?
For people that wear larger than average shoe sizes, Hoka One Clifton is probably the best running shoe comparing to the other giant shoes. Not that Hoka One Clifton is very thick and thick shoes are the most durable but Hoka One Clifton really is like the prince among the giants and for big guys, it is the best running shoes.
You may feel uncomfortable to Wearing Hoka One Clifton when you wear it for the first times but don't worry, once you wear it a few times, you will get used to it. If you have big feet, I would recommend you to try Hoka One One Clifton first and let's see if it works for you or not.
How long do running shoes last for heavy runners?
Almost all running experts agree that running shoes life span depends on many factors:
- Type of running (mostly on asphalt or asphalt mixed with sand)
- Type of running surface (like concrete or dirt)
- The amount of training per week
- The types of workouts (like weight training and plyometric exercises)
- Foot shape and type (length, width, support, flat feet, etc.)
- Weight of the runner
Experts say the average runner should replace running shoes every 300-500 miles (roughly 500-1000km) when they are no longer supportive enough. They can even help you estimate your running shoes mileage by entering the weekly mileage of your running shoes before you buy new ones.
